When you run the checker, you will see the fibre packages available at your exact address, each with its download speed, upload speed and monthly price. Here is how to read them and pick the right one for your business.

Speed tiers, explained simply

Packages range from Essential Fibre up to Gigabit Fibre. The number that matters most depends on how your team works:

Up to 80 Mbps

(Essential and Superfast): fine for a small office of up to around 10 people doing email, cloud software and everyday calls.

115 Mbps to 220 Mbps

(Superfast Plus and Ultrafast): comfortable for busier teams, video meetings and heavier cloud use.

550 Mbps

(Ultrafast Pro): built for data heavy work and larger teams that cannot afford to slow down at peak times.

1 Gbps

(Gigabit): our fastest tier, for high usage businesses that need maximum headroom.

Why upload speed matters for calls

If your business runs its phones over the internet, upload speed is the number to watch. A single VoIP call uses only around 0.1Mbps, but call quality depends on a stable, adequate upload. A call heavy team will feel a weak upload before they notice anything else, so if phones are central to your work, favour a higher tier.

What "no packages available" means

Occasionally the checker returns no packages at an address. This usually means the premises has no fibre serviceable line on record yet. It does not mean you are out of options. See the section below on what to do next.

Why Check Now? The January 2027 Copper Switc Off

The UK's analogue phone network (the PSTN) is being switched off on 31 January 2027. Every business phone line and broadband service that runs over the old copper network, including traditional lines, ISDN, and FTTC broadband with a phone service, must move to a digital alternative before that date.

What's being switched off (and when)

Openreach has already stopped selling new copper-based phone lines nationwide. The final withdrawal deadline is 31 January 2027, after which analogue lines simply stop working. Openreach is completing the migration exchange by exchange, in batches, which is why availability at your postcode can change from one month to the next.

What's being switched off (and when)

If your business still uses analogue lines or ISDN, your phone service will need to move to VoIP (calls over the internet). If your broadband is FTTC with a linked phone line, it will need to move to SOGEA or full fibre. Nothing happens automatically, businesses that don't act risk losing service on the deadline.

Which Business Broadband Is Right for You?

There's no single "best" connection, it depends on how your business uses the internet. Here's the honest version:

Small office or single site (1–15 people)

Full fibre (FTTP) covers almost every small office scenario, including VoIP calls, video meetings and cloud software, from around £30–£50 per month. If FTTP isn't at your address yet, SOGEA will handle a small team comfortably, just check your upload speed if you make a lot of calls.

Multi site or growing teams

Consistency matters more than headline speed. Matching connection types across sites makes your phone system, VPN and cloud tools behave predictably everywhere. This is where a single provider managing all sites saves genuine admin pain.

Call heavy businesses (VoIP ready broadband)

VoIP calls need very little bandwidth, roughly 0.1 Mbps per call, but they're sensitive to upload speed and connection stability. A 20 person team making constant calls will run happily on full fibre; on FTTC, upload speed is usually the first thing to strain. If calls are your business (sales teams, practices, support desks), prioritise FTTP or a leased line.

When a leased line ISN'T worth it

Honestly: most small businesses don't need one.


If you have fewer than ~20 staff, full fibre at £40/month will feel identical to a leased line at £250+/month for everyday use. A leased line earns its cost when downtime directly costs you money, when you need guaranteed symmetrical speeds, or when a fix time SLA is a compliance requirement.

  • Can I get full fibre broadband at my address?

    It depends on your postcode. The only way to know for certain is to run an address-level check, because coverage can differ between neighbouring streets. Use the checker above and it will show the packages live at your premises today.

  • Is full fibre available in my area?

    Use the checker above to find out, availability is decided street by street, not town by town. If full fibre isn't available yet, the checker will show what is (usually SOGEA), and you can ask us to flag your postcode so we can tell you when full fibre goes live

  • When is full fibre coming to my area?

    Openreach and the alternative networks publish rolling build plans, with new exchanges enabled every few months through to the late 2020s. If your address isn't covered yet, check whether your area is in a published build plan or ask us to monitor your postcode and contact you when it's enabled

  • How is full fibre installed?

    An engineer runs a fibre optic cable from the nearest connection point (usually a pole or underground duct) into your premises, fits a small box called an ONT on an internal wall, and connects your router to it. A standard business installation takes two to four hours.

  • How long does full fibre installation take?

    The engineer visit itself typically takes two to four hours. From order to live service, allow one to two weeks for a straightforward installation, or longer if new ducting or wayleave permission (landlord consent) is needed at your premises.

  • Is full fibre worth it for a business?

    Yes, in almost every case. Full fibre usually costs the same as or less than older copper-based broadband while being faster and far more reliable, and it is immune to the 2027 switch off. The only real exception is where a business already has a leased line that meets its needs.

  • What is the best internet for a small business?

    For most UK small businesses, full fibre is the best option: fast enough for calls, video and cloud software, reliable, and typically £30 to £50 per month. Choose a leased line only if downtime directly costs you revenue or you need guaranteed symmetrical speeds.

  • Will my business broadband stop working after the copper switch-off?

    If your service runs over the old copper phone network with an analogue line attached, it will be affected when the PSTN is withdrawn on 31 January 2027. Fibre broadband is unaffected. Run the checker to see what your address can support today.
