About Socktopus
Socktopus is an independent, family-owned UK sock brand dedicated to making feet happy with bold, colourful and wonderfully weird designs. Founded in 2021 by real-life "sockperts" Nick, Josie and Cameron Starsmore, the brand was born on the Brighton seaside with a mission to prove that socks should never be boring background extras.
As the business has grown, Socktopus has moved into a new manufacturing unit in Market Harborough to support its next stage of growth.
The challenge: A New Unit Starting From Scratch
Moving into a new manufacturing unit meant Socktopus needed a completely new communications setup. With new premises came the need for more than a phone system: they also needed secure access for staff, and an easy way for visitors and deliveries to reach the team.
The Key Problems Included:
The solution
The VoIP Shop spoke with Socktopus by phone to understand their requirements, then carried out an on-site survey of the new unit, checking connectivity and Wi-Fi coverage throughout. Rather than recommending equipment they didn't need, we designed a solution around the building as it stood, then supplied, installed and configured everything on site.
Yeastar Cloud PBX
A modern cloud-based phone system was set up for 13 users, with a new business number in place for the new premises.
Hardware: Yealink Wi-Fi Desk Phones
The survey showed the unit already had good Wi-Fi coverage, so 13 Yealink Wi-Fi desk phones were installed. This gave Socktopus flexibility over where handsets are positioned, with no need to run cabling to every desk.
Integrated Door Entry
The door entry system integrates directly with the phone system. When someone presses the button at the entrance, the call rings the designated phones, a member of staff answers and speaks to them, and then releases the door remotely with a button on the handset.
Staff Access Fobs
Authorised employees were supplied with door entry fobs, so they can let themselves into the building without using the phone-based entry system.
On-Site Installation and UK Support
Our engineers installed and configured the phones, door entry unit and associated equipment on site, so everything was ready to use from day one. Socktopus is backed by our UK-based support and maintenance.
The results
One Provider for Phones and Building Access
Socktopus now has a complete communications and access-control solution, supplied, installed and supported by one provider.
No New Cabling Required
By surveying the site first, we made full use of the unit's existing Wi-Fi, delivering a practical and cost-effective setup without cabling every handset position.
Visitors Handled From Any Designated Phone
Staff can speak to visitors and deliveries and release the door straight from their handsets, without leaving what they're doing.
13 Users Ready From Day One
The whole team was set up with Wi-Fi desk phones and a new business number, ready for the move into the new unit.
